Happy Spring
Tis like the birthday of the world,
When earth was born in bloom;
The light is made of many dyes,
The air is all perfume;
There's crimson buds, and white and blue,
The very rainbow showers
Have turned to blossoms where they fell,
And sown the earth with flowers.
-Thomas Hood
Wishing everyone a lovely spring!

An Irish Prayer
May God give you...
For every storm, a rainbow
For every tear, a smile
For every care, a promise
And a blessing in each trial
For every problem life sends
A faithful friend to share
For every sigh, a sweet song
And an answer for each prayer.
Wishing all a beautiful and blessed St. Patrick's Day.

Vingede: The Friar Tobe Fairy Tale Files FREE on Kindle 28 Feb. - 1 Mar.
Vingede, the 2nd book of The Friar Tobe Fairy Tale Files series, will be FREE on Kindle Friday, February 28 and Saturday, March 1, 2014.
A possibly schizophrenic adolescent boy who speaks mysterious, rhyming riddles… a mute teen girl who can only communicate through art and has an odd collecting habit… Two young people held captive by unrelated mental illness or is there a sinister connection between the cases – a swan song cry no one has yet heard?
When former novitiate turned PI, Tobias Berger, is hired by the foster father of a teen whom his unusual new client believes may have knowledge of an undiscovered crime, the private eye finds himself immersed in two cases stranger and darker than the one which introduced him to his current secretary, a young woman who’s much more to him than an employee. As the pieces in an eerie puzzle come together and the couple begins a relationship that Tobias has been hesitant to let take flight, the two discover that the supernatural is far from done with them and that the mystical may well be at work in more than one aspect of their lives.
Another fairy tale mystery in which the paranormal proves itself business as usual.
Each book of The Friar Tobe Fairy Tales Files series is a stand-alone mystery, but for those readers who would like to see how it all started, Mareritt, the 1st of The Friar Tobe Fairy Tale Files, is on sale on Kindle for only 0.99.

Christmas Kindle Sale: 3 Books at 0.99
To celebrate the Christmas season, from now until January 6, On the Soul of a Vampire, the first book in the On the Soul Series, and both books of the Friar Tobe Fairy Tale Files, Mareritt and Vingede, are on sale on Amazon Kindle for only 0.99.
For some it takes a lifetime to discover their raison
d’ĂȘtre. Imagine searching for eight centuries. In 1997 Philadelphia, an 800
year old vampire comes face to face with his reason to be when he discovers a
young mortal woman whose understanding of immortality is about to change all
he’s known as truth. Obsessed with the mystery of her knowledge, he embarks on
a journey that leads him not only to his childhood home in the Provençal Alps,
but into his greatest hopes and dreams, fears and disappointments, and into the
strange and frightening past that shaped him. A novel about faltering faith and
never-ending hope, On the Soul of a Vampire will not only alter everything you
think you know about vampires, it will change the way you see your very soul.
As beauty lies sleeping…
Four pretty, partying high school seniors, four strange and
startling accidents the police believe the girls have brought on themselves. Do
demonic nightmares and fairy tale visions bury a dark secret haunting the girls
or is the past simply struggling to reach the light?
Twenty-eight year old former novitiate turned PI, Tobias
Berger, hired to discover who, if anyone, is threatening the four troubled
young women, is about to embark on a wild “mare ride” to slay their dragon and
uncover the truth.
A dark fairy tale mystery with a touch of mystic light.

I'm also currently finishing work on my fifth book, a new stand-alone novel, called Unless, which is in a different genre from my previous supernatural/metaphysical fiction stories. It's a New Adult/Contemporary Fiction novel about power, pain and the problem of physical pleasure that can know a body but can't know a person. A sneak peek at the cover and preliminary book description will be coming soon and an early 2014 release is expected.
A beautiful and blessed Christmas to those who celebrate it and a happy holiday season to all.

Mareritt: A New Fairy Tale Mystery Coming in June
I'm excited to share that I have an upcoming release in June of a new book in a new series: Mareritt, the first story in the Friar Tobe Fairy Tale Files. Below is a peek at the front cover and book description.
As beauty lies sleeping…
Four pretty, partying high school seniors, four strange and
startling accidents the police believe the girls have brought on themselves. Do
demonic nightmares and fairy tale visions bury a dark secret haunting the girls
or is the past simply struggling to reach the light?
Twenty-eight year old former novitiate turned PI, Tobias

young women, is about to embark on a wild “mare ride” to slay their dragon and
uncover the truth.
A dark fairy tale mystery with a touch of mystic light.
For those who enjoy fairy tales and crime mystery/suspense, Mareritt offers a bit of a unique slant on both, as well as a little
supernatural speculation on the side. A somewhat different style than the On
the Soul series, it’s a fast-paced novel for both YA and adult readers but,
although not explicit, parents may want to consider whether some of the subject
matter is too intense for readers under 13.
Expected release date: mid-June 2013.

Original Book Cover Art & Design on a Budget
Combining my love of books and art, in the next few weeks I'll be debuting a website which offers book cover artwork and design for authors looking for unique, customized covers at a reasonable price. If you're an independent author who seeks an original art cover specifically designed for your novel or short story, but who can't spend hundreds or thousands of dollars for a cover alone, contact me (Krisi Keley) at jcsgs11@aol.com for more information and to discuss ideas and prices. Some sample covers are provided below; more will be available on the website.
(The authors and book titles in the above cover examples were created expressly for the sample covers and any resemblance to real authors or titles is coincidental and unintentional. The images in the samples are original artwork, subject to copyright laws, and may not be used without permission of the artist.)

The Red Bridge Murder Now on Amazon Kindle
For those who enjoy 19th century fiction, French literature, police procedural suspense or are fans of Fyodor Dostoyevsky, you might be interested in The Red Bridge Murder, my English translation of Charles Barbara's L'Assassinat du Pont-Rouge. This novella, thought by some to have possibly influenced Dostoyevsky to write Crime and Punishment, is darkly fascinating in its own right. Considered to be one of the very first police procedurals, it's the story of musician Max Destroy's growing obsession with the strange mystery surrounding his friend, Clement, a man devoid of faith who, despite having gone from utter destitution to wealth, seems persecuted by inner demons.
The Red Bridge Murder/L'Assassinat du Pont-Rouge is available on Amazon Kindle as a dual language book that includes both the original French story and the English translation, as well as notes on the text. To purchase or to read a sample, just click on the book cover link above.

The Next Big Thing: Part 3
Today it’s two more questions in The Next Big Thing (TNBT),
a blog event consisting of 10 questions about an author’s current WIP (work in
progress) and links to more awesome authors.
My big thanks again to authors Karin Kaufman, for inviting me, and Gail M. Baugniet, for the event.
Question #4: Which
actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
As far as the translated story I’m working on, The Red
Bridge Murder, I haven’t really had any time at all to consider that, but the
characters in the story are fairly young, so I think it would need to be actors
in the under 30s group, with whom I’m a bit less familiar.
With Genesis, despite that I actually played out the first
book, On the Soul of a Vampire, in my head as a movie before writing the story
down, I truly can’t imagine any well-known actor portraying ValĂ©ry. I think it would be a difficult role to play,
considering he’s emotionally and intellectually 800 years old, has both
witnessed and experienced a lot of suffering, but still has quite a bit of the youthful
scamp aura about him and he’s physically still 19 years old. There’s also the matter of bringing across
what it would be like to have the complete empathy with and intimate
understanding of another that would come from knowing human souls and his
conflicted, seeker type personality.
Very similar challenges would be involved with playing Angelina and a
number of the other characters in the story, so it would be quite interesting
to see what an actor or actress would do with that.
Question #5: What is
the one sentence synopsis of your book?
The Red
Bridge Murder: A man who denies the existence of God, the
afterlife, good and evil, discovers you need neither faith nor death to suffer
the consuming agony of hell spawned by a tormented conscience.
Genesis: Fallen angels
don’t fall to earth, though in them resides the clue to why the incarnate were sent,
and a sublime truth hidden for centuries within a suffering soul could well be
the key to long-misunderstood and love-filled divine intent.
Some more awesome authors to keep an eye on:
Michelle Sutton: http://apps.michellesutton.net/Blog/
Robbi Bryant: http://www.robbibryant.com/
LeAnn Neal Reilly: http://www.nealreilly.com/
Catherine West: http://thisisablogaboutbooks.wordpress.com/
For those who would like to participate or follow along,
here is the full list of 10 questions:
1. What is the title
of your book/WIP?
2. Where did the idea
for the book come from?3. What genre would your book fall under?
4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
5. What is the one sentence synopsis of your book?
6. Is your book published or represented?
7. How long did it take you to write?
8. What other books within your genre would you compare it to?
9. Which authors inspired you to write the book?
10. Tell us anything else that might pique our interest in your book?
A very happy Friday to all!

The Lion Hunt: My First Published Translation
Now available on Amazon Kindle:

If you like 19th century literature, especially fun action/adventure stories like Alexandre Dumas' The Three Musketeers, and you're looking for other excellent but lesser known authors, you might be interested in checking out my English translation of Alfred Assollant's La Chasse aux Lions (The Lion Hunt). This is a wonderful short story (approximately 20,000 words) about two young soldiers in the 7th Light in Algiers, Dumanet and Pitou, who, more or less, fall into a rather dangerous situation while seeking renown in Africa. Written in an easy-to-read YA style, it's full of fun banter between the two friends and it's a fast-paced adventure.
I had a great time translating the story and the book includes both my English translation and the original French text, as well as some historical and language notes for students.
Thank you to anyone who gets a chance to check it out and I hope you like it as much as I did.
Wishing everyone a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!
